Approval rating for Brad Wall remains strong (April 15, 2010)

A new independent online poll conducted by Insightrix Research with Saskatchewan residents shows that approval of Premier Brad Wall remains relatively steady. Presently 68.5% approve of his performance as Premier of Saskatchewan (30.6% strongly approve and 37.9% somewhat approve).

The poll was conducted shortly after the provincial budget was announced, with a random sample of 800 online respondents who are members of Insightrix’s SaskWatch Research™ online panel. Quotas were set by age, gender and region to ensure that a balanced mix of the population was surveyed. Data were collected between April 6th and 8th, 2010.

Despite strong approval ratings for the Premier, party support is softening. Specifically, if an election were held today, 58.4% of decided voters would vote for the Saskatchewan Party (excluding those who say they would not vote or are unsure of who they would vote for). This is down somewhat from an Insightrix Research / News Talk 650 CKOM & News Talk 980 CJME poll conducted in November 2009, at which time 66.6% of decided voters indicated that they would put an ‘x’ next to the Saskatchewan Party name on the ballot.

Economy on everyone's mind in Saskatchewan (March 2, 2009)

One third of Saskatchewan residents say the economy is the most important issue facing the province today (33.6%). Health care comes in at a distant second (13.5%) followed by jobs and unemployment issues (12.8%).

Meanwhile, confidence in the national economy continues to slide; presently the majority of Saskatchewan residents believe the Canadian economy will get worse over the next 6 months (55.0%), up from 49.7% in January 2009 and more than double the percentage in May 2008 (22.6%). By contrast, 16.2% believe Canada's economy will get better within the next six months, the lowest proportion seen since Insightrix began tracking economic outlooks in May 2008. In January 2009, 20.6% believed the country’s economy would get better and 29.5% did so in May 2008.

The poll, conducted by Insightrix Research, Inc. of Saskatoon was administered by telephone to a random and representative selection of 800 Saskatchewan residents between February 10th and 16th, 2009. The results are considered accurate to within ±3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Confidence in provincial economy slides (January 13, 2009)

A recent independent poll conducted by Insightrix Research indicates three in ten (29.7%) believe the provincial economy will ‘get better’ over the next six months. This is down from two-thirds (67.8%) who held this belief in May of 2008 (based on a similar study conducted by Insightrix Research at that time). More than four in ten (43.5%) believe the provincial economy will ‘remain the same’ over the next six months, while 22.9% expect it to ‘get worse’, up from 9.3% in May, 2008. The remaining 3.9% are unsure.

It is of note that this research was completed prior to the recent Mosaic lay-off announcement of more than 1,000 works at its potash mines in Saskatchewan. While this economic outlook is lower than last May, optimism of the province economy remains stronger than that of the national economy. Presently, one half of Saskatchewan residents (49.7%) believe the Canadian economy will ‘get worse’ over the next six months, while only 20.6% believe it will ‘get better’. Nearly one quarter (24.0%) anticipate it will remain the same and 5.7% are unsure.

The poll, conducted by Insightrix Research, Inc. of Saskatoon was administered by telephone to a random and representative selection of 829 Saskatchewan residents between January 6th and 11th, 2009. The results are considered accurate to within ±3.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Corrin Harper, the President at Insightrix is convinced that dogs in the office are a good idea. She points to workplace stress as one of the "most serious" issues affecting productivity: "Having a dog in a workplace leads to a much more stress-free environment."

Political Parties before platforms in many cases (October 9, 2008)

The poll, conducted by Insightrix Research, Inc. of Saskatoon was administered to its online panel and is not necessarily representative of the broader voting population. A total of 529 residents across the country (with the majority living in Saskatchewan) aged 18+ completed the survey on October 6th, 2008. The following four parties were included in the research: the Conservative Party, Liberal Party, New Democrat Party and the Green Party. For each party, Insightrix's professional researchers used the official platforms released from the parties where possible in addition to information from news media, and other party documents to summarize the main points for respondents.

Results were subsequently compared to respondents' voting intentions. Insightrix found that in about one third of respondents who intend to vote in the upcoming election plan to vote for a party that was not the same party whose platform they most supported (32%).
